Ana Maria Machado
Machado is a Brazilian journalist, teacher, painter and writer. With a degree in Literature, Ana Maria Machado taught at UFRJ and PUC-RJ. As a journalist, she worked for more than ten years at Rádio Jornal do Brasil. She was one of the founders, in 1980, of the first children’s bookstore in Brazil, Malasartes (in Rio de Janeiro), which still exists today. In this decade she published more than forty books, and in 1981 received the Casa de Las Américas Award with the book De Olho nas penas.
