Antoine-Jean-Baptiste-Marie-Roger Foscolombe de Saint-Exupéry was a writer, illustrator and pilot in the Second World War, the third son of Count Jean Saint-Exupéry and Countess Marie Foscolombe. In love with mechanics since childhood, he first studied at the Notre-Dame de Saint-Croix Jesuit school, in Mans, from 1909 to 1914. In this year of the First World War, together with his brother François, he transfers to Marian Brothers school in Freiburg, Switzerland, where he remains until 1917. Four years later, in April 1921, Antoine begins military service in the 2nd Aviation Regiment of Strasburg, after failing the entrance exams for the Naval School.
