Carlos Drummond de Andrade

Carlos Drummond de Andrade was a Brazilian poet, storyteller and chronicler. He was born in Minas Gerais, in a city the memory of which would permeate part of his work, Itabira. He later studied in Belo Horizonte and Nova Friburgo with the Jesuits of colégio Anchieta. He graduated in pharmacy, and with Emílio Moura and other companions, founded "A Revista", to divulge modernism in Brazil. During most of his life he was a public employee, although he started writing early, and proceeded until his passing, which occurred in 1987 in Rio de Janeiro, twelve days after the death of his only daughter, writer Maria Julieta Drummond de Andrade.[1] Besides poetry, he produced children’s books, tales and chronicles.
