Jorge Amado de Faria

Jorge Amado de Faria (August 10, 1912 – August 6, 2001) was a Brazilian writer of the Modernism school. He was the best known of modern Brazilian writers, and his works have been translated to around 49 languages and became popular in the movies, notably “Dona Flor e Seus Dois Maridos” (Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands) in 1978. His works referred especially to poor city dwellers and negro/mulatto communities in Bahia.
