Martha Medeiros

Martha Medeiros (Porto Alegre, August 20, 1961) is a Brazilian journalist and writer. The daughter of José Bernardo Barreto de Medeiros and Isabel Mattos de Medeiros, she is a columnist of the newspaper Zero Hora of Porto Alegre, and O Globo, of Rio de Janeiro. She is married to advertising agent Luiz Telmo de Oliveira Ramos, and has two daughters. She studied at the traditional Porto Alegre Colégio Nossa Senhora do Bom Conselho, located on the outskirts of the Moinhos de Vento borough. She graduated in 1982 from the Pontifícia Universidade Católica of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS), in Porto Alegre. She worked in advertising and publicity, but soon felt frustrated with the career. When her husband received an offer to work in Chile, she decided that a country change would be an excellent opportunity to take a break from her profession. This nine-month stay in Chile, which she spent writing poetry, ended up being a watershed in her life. When she returned to Porto Alegre, she began writing newspaper chronicles and, since then, her writing career took off.
